FUNDING THE U.N.
2019 Special Competition
This is your chance to work as a team, think outside the box, and earn some money for your school's Model U.N. program. Please read the details below carefully, and contact us if you have any questions. The winners of the program will be announced at the Friday afternoon awards ceremony on March 8, 2019.
Situation:
The current administration in the United States previously instituted cutbacks in their funding for the United Nations. You will recall they cut their funding from 25% down to 22%, in 2018. Some of the other nations increased their donations to try to make up the difference.
The current administration has now announced further cutbacks in funding from last year’s 22% down to 18% .
You have been hired as a consultant to convince the powers that be in Washington DC to turn this around and get the 22% reinstated.
Possible solution:
Your task is to assume that you are the public relations consulting firm and you must design a media campaign, using all forms of media, to turn this around. You must identify who you will lobby and what information you will use. You only have 60 days to get this accomplished. Please provide a structured program of how you will meet this goal and explain what metrics you will use to gauge which is the most effective form of media you’re using.
Your submissions will be due, in writing, by February 28 at 4 pm to Mo Winograd at mowinograd973@gmail.com. If you have questions about this scenario, please email Mo.
